Artist's Comments
A final project done for the costume program I took.
This piece is inspired by the King Bird of Paradise, who is a small noble bird of bright red feathers and Blue legs. When I thought of King, I thought of a classic image of Royalty, hundreds of years ago when sumptuary laws were in place, with rich fabrics and colors an such. I wanted to reflect characteristics of period dress but in a modern way, taking certain aspects of an era and combining them. The jacket, spats, and hat are all 100% silk This costume consists of: a top hat hand covered in blue silk, a red silk Jacket with ruffled collar and epulettes, Jeweled gray satin shorts (Jeweled by Megan Hewitt), jeweled garter straps, tulle and net bustle, white blouse, Elizabethan ruff of white lace (took 4 hours by hand) blue silk thigh high spats with 50 functional buttons  Im proud can you tell?The costume was drafted and constructed by myself, and the photo was by myself as well.
