A final project done for the costume program I took.

This piece is inspired by the King Bird of Paradise, who is a small noble bird of bright red feathers and Blue legs. When I thought of King, I thought of a classic image of Royalty, hundreds of years ago when sumptuary laws were in place, with rich fabrics and colors an such. I wanted to reflect characteristics of period dress but in a modern way, taking certain aspects of an era and combining them.

The jacket, spats, and hat are all 100% silk

This costume consists of: a top hat hand covered in blue silk, a red silk Jacket with ruffled collar and epulettes, Jeweled gray satin shorts (Jeweled by Megan Hewitt), jeweled garter straps, tulle and net bustle, white blouse, Elizabethan ruff of white lace (took 4 hours by hand) blue silk thigh high spats with 50 functional buttons:) Im proud can you tell?

The costume was drafted and constructed by myself, and the photo was by myself as well. Model is Cynthia Guay

i adore this costume so much (and the spats really pull it together--theyre very well done especially with 50 functioning buttons!)

lovely job~

Thank you! I adore it as well, it actually inspired a whole line. Ill be putting it together soon and then there will be photo's to follow :)

I am actually very proud of my buttons and button holes :) unfortunately for the show itself I had to throw on emergency velcro to do them up with because some of the button tops kept popping off! everyone warned me about those homemade buttons... I wont be using them again ;) they are still functioning though

cool, ill make sure to check it out ^^

awesome clothing, and the picture for it is really great as well :)

:) you're quite welcome

The whole outfit is simply superb, but the spats are my favorite. Is there a strap under the shoe to hold them secure? Do they stay up well on their own, or attached to garters? Love to see more.

Cheers,
Nick

"Good!" said the Baron, sitting in his hall, "But iron, cold iron, is master of them all!"

yup, there is a strap under the shoe. they are backed with canvas and have ridgeline up the back so they stand stiff on their own. I added garter straps but that was just for decorative touch, they are not holding the spats up.
Thanks :)
